Suspended botanical paintings

CAM - Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian shop

The "Jardim Gulbenkian" series has been inspired by the plant species from the Gulbenkian Foundation's Garden. Viola riviana, Iris pseudacorus, Celtis occidentalis and Ranunculus repens became protagonists of this collection of suspended paintings, in which flora takes on monumental scale.

"Goethe compares Nature to a book offering a valuable content in all its pages. It's works states the inspiring power of this ever-lasting fontaine of knowledge in permanent transformation (...) if one considers the organic forms, we discover that nothing is stopped, nothing is finished, everything balances in constant movement."
- Artur Santos Silva in "Flora. Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's Garden"

Hand-painted on Portuguese organic cotton, the works engage with light and space, inviting us to pause, observe and meditate on the present. The works are available at the CAM - Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian shop.
